About Us
Research and Production Company SMET was founded in 1991. Our scope is development and production of innovative products from bioelastic Nitinol (NiTi) with shape memory and super-elasticity. The priority field is medicine, especially endoscopic instruments.
Nitinol is the only bioinert alloy that has the elasticity like a living tissue, which makes it able to create unique medical products based on it.
In 1994 SMET was the first in the world who started to produce the “classic” Dormia lithoextractors from Nitinol.
In the late 90s, we have developed and began to produce Nitinol lithoextractors with an innovative Khachin’s trap basket in the “seine” shape with a mesh on the distal part of a trap, which guarantees stone capture and it’s extraction from the first attempt. The original Khachin’s lithoextractors have become a strong competitors to the traditional extractors with a Dormia basket. Right now Khachin’s lithoextractors are well known worldwide, primarily in the USA.
From 2002 SMET was one external Nitinol Lab of COOK Inc. (USA) for several years. The number of pioneer products were developed during this period to only in urological field.
In 2014 we have developed and started to produce new type of Khachin’s lithoextractors with the ability to move the mesh from the distal surface of the basket to the side surface (side basket) and thereby get rid of the "extreme big" stone captured in the basket.
